It’s the perfect mixture between mixing the past and the present. Throughout the book, the past ties into the future and acts as a supplement to explain the events that occurred beforehand in order to create the present. Now, for those of you that aren’t as into harder core thrillers, I have to say, without ruining it, that this book is pretty heavy and controversial.
More About the Book
When it comes to the plot development, my only issue with it would be that there’s a substantial amount of filler in the middle of the book. It primarily focuses on the mother learning to move on several years after her daughter’s disappearance and this is kind of where it slows down, and doesn’t benefit the story much.
Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell is a novel chalk full of plot twists, downward spirals and one surprise after another. This is a classic when it comes to suspense meets thriller.
What it’s About
This book has a variety of different focal points when it comes to who the main protagonist is. Initially, it focuses on the little girl that goes missing, and then flips to the mother and how she’s adjusted over the years.
A Great Summertime Read
If you’re okay with a heavy thriller that’s so crazy that it could happen in real life, I would highly recommend this book. Also, if you’re the type of person that gets hooked to a book like I do, you’ll be able to finish it without putting it down.
Also, the ending, after all of the buildup seemed to conclude very quickly, but it is in no way a disappointment. If you’re looking for a bone chilling thriller this summer, this is highly recommended. It had me tense all the way through, and is well worth a spot in the top five of my summer reads.
Even though I am not usually a fan of British authors, let alone stories located in London (they all usually follow a similar format and wind up predictable) this particular novel stood out to me because of all of the layers, and the writing style.
The execution and the plot is exceptional, and the reason behind the young girls disappearance is mind blowing. It’s a one of a kind book, that is worthy of an award. Thank you so much for reading. I hope that this helps you find another great read for the summer.
